Comparison Shopping Tips

It's not easy to do comparison shopping for hearing aids, but here are some tips:

  • Do your homework.
Use the internet or your local library to learn more about hearing loss. Investigate the available brands and styles of hearing aids and the relative costs of each.
    • Non-profit groups, professional organizations, and hearing aid retailers can educate you. The American Academy of Audiology (www.audiology.org) serves as an excellent resource for information and education about hearing loss.
    • Jones Hearing Centers provides you a list of helpful resouces on our Helpful Resources Page.

  • Know how pricing works.
Determine if each hearing aid provider charges you one flat-fee or bills you separately for the hearing tests, hearing aids, adjustments and other services.
  • Compare different manufacturers of hearing aids for pricing and warranties. See our Helpful Resources Page for a list of hearing aid manufacturers. You should work with your hearing professional to determine the best hearing aid for you. Learning more about hearing aids and manufacturers makes you a more savvy consumer.

  • Compare payment plans offered by different hearing aid providers.

  • Confirm if your insurance plan covers costs related to hearing loss. If so, does your hearing aid provider work with your insurance plan?

  • Consider the TOTAL cost of the hearing aids.
Remember to count service and maintenance costs in the total cost of your hearing aids. Know what is and is not included in the cost of your hearing aids.
